SEO Content Strategy: Build Topics Instead of Random Blog Posts
Practical guidance for better search and website decisions.
← All insightsA content strategy gives each page a distinct job. Publishing unrelated SEO posts each month can create a large archive without helping customers understand the services or find a useful next step. Start with business questions rather than a publishing quota.
Begin with commercial pages
List the real services and the customers they serve. Each core service page should explain the offer, scope, process, evidence and contact path. Supporting articles cannot compensate for a vague service page; they should answer questions that arise before or after someone considers the service. Identify any service page that receives impressions but fails to explain the work clearly.
Collect recurring customer questions
Use sales conversations, support tickets and Search Console queries to find genuine questions. Sort them into problems, comparisons, costs, implementation and maintenance. Choose topics the business can answer accurately from its experience. Avoid writing an article solely because a tool suggested a phrase. Record the source of each question so the eventual article addresses a real decision.
Map each topic to a distinct intent
Before drafting, inspect existing pages and decide what the new one will add. A broad guide may cover the decision; a narrower post can show a worked example or troubleshooting process. If two drafts would provide the same answer, strengthen one page rather than creating duplicate posts. Give each article a primary destination that it can link to naturally.
Connect the cluster
Link each supporting post to the relevant service and to closely related explanations where useful. Use anchors that tell readers what comes next. Update older articles when a better guide is published so useful paths remain current. Navigation and contextual links both matter. Do not send every post to the homepage when a specific service page answers the reader better.
Review outcomes and prune carefully
Measure relevant search queries, engaged visits and qualified enquiries by landing page. Update outdated facts and remove repetition when the evidence supports it. A low-traffic article may still answer a valuable customer question, so do not delete it solely because it has few clicks. If merging, plan redirects to the most relevant replacement and check internal links afterwards.
